Pakefield is the site of one of the earliest known areas of human habitation in the United Kingdom. A gorgeous coastal village sat at the top of a dramatic cliff, with a panoramic view out to the North Sea. Pakefield is a quaint suburb of Lowestoft with an identity all of its own. Echoes of Pakefield’s maritime past are all around, from the little fishermen’s cottages to the diminutive 19th century lighthouse, your imagination will be captivated by this peaceful and understated historic coastal gem. Pebbled and rustic, strewn with patches of Marram grass and the ideal place for a dog walk or family day out. You might even spot a seal bobbing around or keeping an eye on you on the shore.
The pretty beach huts that line the promenade are privately owned, but some are available to hire, should you wish to enjoy a taste of Suffolk seaside life. There are a number of shops, a theatre and a cinema, as well as plenty of places to dine and drink while watching the sun go down – the perfect end to the perfect day.
It’s also an excellent location for exploring the beautiful Suffolk towns of Southwold, Aldeburgh, Walberswick, Thorpeness, & Dunwich as well as the bustling market towns of Beccles & Bungay. There is also plenty to occupy the little ones, active ones & those who just want to chill out & watch the world go by!
Local activities include sailing, kitesurfing, paddle boarding, wind surfing, bird watching, walking, fishing and canoeing to name a few. If you’re looking to explore a bit further afield, Fairhaven Woodland and Water Garden, is a secret hideaway with four miles of woodland walks, plants and wildlife. The gardens are a hotspot for rare birds. You can also hop aboard Primrose, the garden’s Edwardian style river cruiser and glide along the river for 50 minutes while catching a glimpse of the historic ruins of St Benet’s Abbey.
The bustling market town of Norwich is about 45 minutes away with its picturesque lanes, buzzy market, cultural displays and dining treats. And of course there are our two famous Cathedrals and Norwich Castle, which was built by the Normans as a Palace over 900 years ago. It is now a museum and art gallery where children can discover more about East Anglia’s own Queen Boudicca. The Museum of Norwich is packed full of exhibitions and interactive displays, or why not enjoy taking the hop-on-hop-off bus to see the city.
Not too far from Pakefield is Great Yarmouth – a lively resort with an endless list of entertainment and places to eat – not forgetting the Pleasure Beach with its infamous Snail ride, a nine acre amusement park, the Time and Tide Museum and the brilliant Hippodrome Circus – one of the last purpose built circus buildings in the UK. Thrigby Hall Wildlife Gardens is a must if you love animals, and Pettitts Animal Adventure Park has something to do with children of all ages.

This house is very comfortable & well equipped and superbly positioned, just two minutes walk from the stunning Pakefield beach, where I was lucky enough to see some spectacular sunrises. We weren’t on holiday but it gave us a very comfortable & enjoyable respite from the stress of moving/ not having a permanent home. It was a lovely place to relax & unwind.
Doesn't feel like holiday accomodaton, feels just like home. Lovely local area, visited Southwold, Halesworth, Beccles and Bungay - all lovely places with warm and friendly locals. Recommend the Angel at Halesworth and the Jolly Sailors in Pakefield for dog friendly lunches. Also Kessingland beach for a wonderful dag walk on the pristine beach. Never visited this before but would definitely come back!
What a lovely holiday home - eveythign you could possibly want has been provided and much more! We have had lovely walks, food and drink in the pubs, played card games and enjoyed the sun trap of a garden. It's so comfortable we can't get the teenagers up! Thank you so much for the birthday surprises too! We will be back!!
