Let's talk sustainability...

As climate action grows more important by the day and small businesses make up 90% of businesses worldwide, we know we at East Coast Hideaways, and our owners, have a huge role to play in tackling the crisis. We are also acutely aware of rising energy costs, and in a bid to try to keep guest prices down in the future, we are asking you to work with us to help these keep rising costs down for our owners now.

So, what have we been doing to help?

  • We email all documents rather than posting them.
  • We’ve switched to eco-friendly cleaning products and detergents where we can, and our cleaning contractors have done the same.
  • We only provide local produce in our welcome hampers, as this doesn’t just reduce our carbon footprint, it also helps you support our local economy.
  • We’ve removed as much single use plastic from the properties as we can.
  • We hire and replenish linens stock where possible instead of buying them, to cut down on unnecessary purchasing, wrapping and water usage.
  • We always employ local craftsmen in our building and property maintenance, and where possible, we use all local products in properties.
  • We have started to install EV car chargers at properties and will continue to work with owners to support this addition.

What can you do to help us?

  • Do as you would do at home – turn lights off when you leave the property, ensure the extractor fan isn’t running, close doors and windows in winter, turn the heating down if you are going to be out all day and so on.
  • Recycle – It’s still one of the most effective ways to cut down on waste. Please use the wheelie bins to recycle paper, card, glass, plastic cartons, and cans, which can be found outside the property. If you are not sure of the bin collection days and it is not noted in the welcome pack, please contact us on 01692 651603 or check the local authority website.
  • Let us know how many beds/bedrooms you would like made up, so we don’t make all the beds unless we need to – less laundry means less sewage, energy, and labour costs for all, resulting in long-term savings and less work for our housekeepers.
  • Towels can sustain significant wear and tear throughout the drying, folding, storage, and repositioning processes that they must endure each time they are rewashed – so please bring your own supply or re-use the ones that we provide. Each person will receive one hand towel and one bath sheet as standard, and each bathroom has a hand towel and bathmat supplied. We also provide washable tea towels and cleaning cloths, and several dishwasher/washing machine tabs if necessary.
  • Shop locally – we have a fantastic range of farm shops, local producers, and grocers in East Anglia, so please consider using these if you can rather than taking the car to the large supermarkets.
